Overview
Las Balsas is inside Nahuel Huapi National Park which is double the size of Yosemite, and just a little smaller than Yellowstone. For people who are attracted to the name "Patagonia", especially soft adventure lovers who also enjoy a wonderful Relais & Chateaux meal and look for privacy and uniqueness, you have officially found your eden at Las Balsas. Stretching out in front of the lodge’s blue façade are the crystal clear waters of the lake—an adventure-lover’s playground. Within the folds of the landscape are rivers teeming with trout and ample trails for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking.
Come wintertime, the local mountains transform into a powdery offering of quiet winter-time bliss. Find yourself relaxing in the hot tub overlooking the lake and mountains with snow all around you, or if the conditions allow, hop on a ski lift for a day of snowboarding and skiing. At the end of each day, the world-class wellness center provides a sanctuary to rejuvenate weary muscles. Massage services are available with in-house professional masseuse, and guest are free to use the heated indoor/outdoor pool, outdoor hot tub, and sauna. If you please, stretch out and meditate in the yoga area, or strengthen your muscles further at the upstairs mini gym.
This three-night program works year-round, but the seasonal changes at Las Balsas will help determine which activities to choose from. Las Balsas is located on the other side of the lake from San Carlos de Bariloche, which is a town of about 1 million people. The quaint town of Villa la Angostura is more similar to a mountain town in Colorado, like Durango or Breckenridge where you'll find one main street with a few restaurants, bars, coffee shops, adventure outfitters, and more... One random thing surprising about Villa la Angostura is that they have some of the best ice cream and chocolate that you'll find just about anywhere else in the world!
Other unique ways of arriving at Las Balsas include the following:
- 1 or 2 daily flights from Santiago, Chile
- 2 or 3 daily flights from Mendoza, Argentina to San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina
- From Puerto Varas/Puyehue in the Chilean lake district, it is a 4 to 5 hour drive overland into Argentina to arrive at Las Balsas. This option during the peak winter months is more difficult due to the chance of icey road conditions.

Buenos Aires to Las Balsas
The easiest way to visit Las Balsas is by flying from Buenos Aires (EZE international and AEP) to either Bariloche (BRC) or Chapelco (CPC). From CPC, it is a 2 hour 15 minute drive to Las Balsas in Villa La Angostura. From BRC, it is a 1 hour 15 minute drive.
