Day 1: Arrival at SJO / Flight to Puerto Jimenez

Flight San Jose to Puerto Jimenez

Depending on the time of international arrival, either exit SJO and continue across the street by foot to the domestic airport for your flight to Puerto Jimenez. However, if the international arrival flight arrives late at night, its best to stay in San Jose for the evening, then return to San Jose domestic airport the following day. There are daily flights to book from SANSA Airlines, sometimes up to 10 per day— San Jose to Puerto Jimenez. The flight is about 45-minutes long.

Upon arrival at Puerto Jimenez, you will see a Lapa Rios representative who will help lead you to the local office next to the airstrip for a cold coconut water and snacks. From there, continue with a driver to Lapa Rios (45-minute car ride) and meet the local guides to plan adventures for the following days to come.

Excursion of Your Choice at Lapa Rios

Lapa Rios is located in the Osa Peninsula which holds 3% of our world's biodiversity and is located along Golfo Dulce which is one of the few Tropical Tjords int he world. One of the most unique aspects of Lapa Rios is that its located in primary forest, so you will see trees that are over 500 years old on the Rainforest Ridge hike. Next to it, is secondary forest still recovering from being slashed in the 1960's for farming and hunting. Thanks to Lapa Rios, a massive section of the rainforest has been protected due to ecotourism.

Day 4: Flight from Puerto Jimenez to Quepos

After breakfast, private transfer from Lapa Rios to Kurá. Its a 4-hour scenic drive through the Osa Peninsula. This is the most cost efficient way of getting from one to the other, however other options are going from Puerto Jimenez to Uvita by boat, or flying with Böëna's private plane service XPlore Air from Puerto Jimenez to Quepos. From Quepos to Kurá, its a 1-hour drive.

At Kurá, enjoy many amenities such as the public bar, lounge and restaurant spaces surrounding a stunning infinity pool which features a state-of-the-art underwater sound system. Innovate local cuisine and cocktails are highlighted at the bar and restaurant and ingredients are either grown on site or sourced from local artisan producers. Enjoy a couples massage at our state-of-the-art Spa Sha.

Complimentary daily transfers are offered to the beaches surrounding Uvita and guests need not brave the road to the hotel (which requires 4x4); There are many different adventure activities to choose from such as kayaking mangroves, horseback riding, snorkeling or scuba diving Caño Island, visiting Corcovado National Park by boat, or spelunking waterfalls. However, feel free to settle in and enjoy. You may never want to leave your suite, and we don't blame you.

*This is one of the best places to see Humpback Whales in all of Costa Rica (from August - November) and Kurá actually overlooks Marino Ballena National Park, which translates to "Whales Tail." This is quite ironic because the beach is shaped like a whale's tail, and this is the location that whales and their babies love to migrate through seasonally.
